課程概述

這門課程的中心主軸放在政治民主、市場經濟與社會福利面向的政治學與社會學相關討論，突顯國家發展與民主、市場經濟及社會福利密不可分的關係。在探討這三個面向的同時，這門課程企圖從歷史比較的觀點了解已開發國家與發展型國家中國家與社會之間的關係形成，以及他們在全球化的政經脈絡轉變下所面臨的挑戰和改革契機。從這樣的想法出發，這門課程主要分成兩大部份：首先介紹和國家研究最相關的政治社會學相關國家理論，然後再從比較民主、比較政治經濟學、以及比較福利國家制度的角度來了解西方相關的研究；接下來將關懷轉向比較東亞研究文獻，特別是發展型國家的相關文獻，以便從比較的眼光理解東亞和臺灣的情形。最後，這個課程希望回到原點，討論國家發展中國家的角色與功能，藉以反省東亞和臺灣發展的經驗。

課程目標

本課程希望藉由探討國家和社會發展之間的關係，引導學生對於國家定位以及國家治理等議題進行深度思考，並從政治、經濟以及社會的面向切入，梳理國家發展研究三個主要的爭辯脈絡，包括：
I. 國家應該如何保有治理能力並取得治理正當性？（政治民主面向）
II. 國家應該扮演怎樣的角色？應該在多大的範圍內介入市場？（經濟面向）
III. 國家如何調和經濟價值與社會公平間的衝突？（社會福利面向）

課程要求

1.本課程有教學網頁Ceiba，請同學隨時注意最新消息。
2.每週上課會點名，全學期缺席次數不能超過3次。
3.每週主題有「基本閱讀（*標示為必讀）」及「進階閱讀」，請同學依情況
選讀資料。
4.上課以討論方式進行，同學必須閱讀資料，上課參與討論。同學應任選6週的基本閱讀文獻撰寫各一頁左右的讀書心得以及兩個討論問題給老師，在個別該週的星期四上課以前繳交。此外，修課同學應任選一週題目的所有列出文獻做約30分鐘的口頭報告。口頭報告前至少一週與老師先行討論大綱，報告資料必須上傳至網頁。
